Express refresh: Set Your Home for Holiday and Guests
Holiday hustle doesn’t have to mean stress. To instantly transform your home before guests arrive, focus on tackling “visual noise.” Designer and Editor of DI CATALOUGE Olga Goldina shares a simple algorithm to fill your space with air and a sense of calm.
1. The "Clean Surfaces" Rule
Start by clearing off everything on your counters, TV stands, and shelves. Leave only a few large items, like a coffee machine, teapot, a cool record player, or a nice book. Hide all the small stuff: keys, receipts, and makeup inside cabinets. Remove things from chairs and open hooks, and put or hang them in the closet, behind the door or behind curtains.
2. The Power of Baskets
If you’re short on cupboard space, use organizers. Nice baskets, simple boxes, metal or leather trays. These functional items help hold all those little things in one place. Your goods stay handy, but they won’t look like a mess.
3. Pick a Focus Point
Once the surfaces are clear, add something beautiful to catch the eye. Put a big vase of flowers, a statuette, a bowl of fruit, or a large plant in the middle of the room. These pieces set the mood and hide any tiny details you might have missed.
and to sum up
Leave room to breath. Quick tidy-up doesn’t just look good. It makes cleaning much faster since you won’t have to move a hundred tiny things to wipe away dust. Of course, this is just the start. Real coziness comes from what’s inside your cupboards and being careful about what you buy. Before bringing something new home, think about what you can get rid of first.
But let’s save the big cleanup for later. For now, light the candles and enjoy the Seder night with your guests in your bright, fresh home!
