The twin cities Tel Aviv-Yafo and Frankfurt are dealing with similar challenges, including rising rent rates that deepen social divides, unequal access to opportunities, and a lack of stability in the rented apartment market. This reality has led us to seek alternatives to the standard housing model.
To mark 45 years of city twinning, we will be holding four hybrid PechaKucha meetings focusing on the challenges of housing in metropolitan cities such as the twin cities of Tel Aviv-Yafo and Frankfurt. The series will address core issues of community housing: experts and leading thinkers from both cities will give dynamic PechaKucha format presentations, exchanging ideas and presenting case studies, exploring architectural solutions, community models, and novel financing options.
The first evening in the series introduces the subject while focusing on the core issues of community housing: planning solutions, community models, and novel financing options. During the meeting, we will hear the current Israeli and European perspectives on which models and options can be implemented, inspired by the spirit of kibbutz community sharing.
The project aims to veer away from “dry” investigative models toward a dual, actual initiative that will culminate with a public discussion and be implemented in both cities. In these four meetings, experts and residents from both cities will exchange ideas, present case studies, and examine architectural, social, and economic solutions.
We invite you to join us to shape and explore models that integrate shared infrastructure, democratic management, and sustainable, novel residential design that meet the needs of modern urban societies.
Urban Kibbutz – Affordable Housing is a series of four meetings at Liebling Salon. The Salon was created to spark discussions about preserving the essence of Tel Aviv-Yafo during this period of rapid transformation. The gatherings focus on tackling contemporary challenges in the field of urban housing, especially as the city’s historical layers gain fresh significance and the conflict between the old and the new intensifies.
