SUMMARY:Labor. Work. Action | Art from the Museum Collection
כך, היא מאפשרת ליצור הקשרים חדשים בין יצירות מאוספי המוזיאון השונים ולשים זרקור על סיפורו הייחודי של אוסף המשכן לאמנות עין חרוד, ודרכו לנסות להבין משהו על הרגע ההיסטורי הנוכחי ועל אירועי התקופה.\nאמנים מציגים: פריד אבו שקרה, אברהם אופק, בני אפרת, ביאנקה אשל-גרשוני, נפתלי בזם, יששכר בר ריבק, צבי גלי, תמר גטר, יהושע גרוסברד, משה גרשוני, דב הלר, יוכבד וינפלד, חאדר ושאח, יוזף ישראלס, פנחס כהן גן, הילה לולו לינ פרח כפר בירעים, סיגלית לנדאו, אברהם מינצ’ין, יהושע נוישטיין, אפרת נתן, מירי נשרי, יוחנן סימון, פנחס עשת, איזידור קאופמן, גרשון קניספל, לזר קרסטין, אורי ריזמן, רות שלוס\nהתערוכה מוצגת בתמיכת אוסף אנג’ל לאמנות עכשווית\n_____________________________\nThe connection between the labor settlement movement, Jewish culture, and contemporary art led to the formation of a unique collection at the Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod, which encompasses approximately 20,000 paintings, sculptures, photographs, graphic works, and Judaica items.\nThis collection outlines alternative paths, lending itself to challenging and different perspectives on the history of Israeli art, its origins, trends and directions, and accordingly, on Israeli society and local history. The Mishkan’s diverse collection also allows a rethinking of Judaism on levels that are not limited to the religious-Orthodox, but rather extend to philosophical, cultural, visual, and political realms.\nThe Mishkan collections initially focused on works by Jewish artists and Judaica objects that arrived from Europe during World War II, recognizing the urgency of salvaging and preserving the culture and art of the Jewish communities that were facing annihilation. Over the years, Israeli artworks from the early 20th century to the present have been added to the collection, including an extensive collection of kibbutz artists and artists who worked outside of mainstream Israeli art for most of their career.\nThis exhibition examines these collections through the relationship between three categories – Labor, Work, and Action – as three sensibilities or three basic principles. In her book The Human Condition, the German-Jewish philosopher Hannah Arendt claims that it is through action, and not thinking, that man distinguishes himself from animals. While the classical Western philosophical and religious thought gave precedence to the contemplative life (vita contemplativa), modern philosophers like Nietzsche and Marx turned their attention to the active life (vita activa). Arendt joins them and divides the active life into three broad categories, whose combination she sees asessential to the human existence: Labor, Work, and Action. Labor is about meeting the body’s biological needs. It is life itself and it is what makes our existence possible. Work is world liness. It fashions objects and creates a world of “things.” Action is the realm that exists only in human society and onlyafter man is free from his needs. Through action, man breaks away from the mundane, repetitive, and reactive. Arendt places the origin of action in the authentic impetus to initiate, to start something new, and to set processes in motion. Its significance lies in its execution, and it is not measured in its accomplishments or motivation.\nThe curation of the new permanent exhibition was informed by these three categories, which reverberate through the exhibition in a non-linear, non-thematic, and non-chronological way. With that, it summons unexpected, at times intuitive encounters between works from different periods, places, and styles – artworks from 19th century Europe and contemporary works fromIsrael; works by mainstream artists and lesser known or outsider artists;\nrenowned canonical works and works that were kept in the collection storage and were not publicly displayed for years. By facilitating new associations between works from the various museum collections, the exhibition turns a spotlight on the unique story of the Mishkan art collection, and offers a path through which we can try to fathom something about the present moment in history and the events of our time.\n

תערוכה זו מוצגת במסגרת סדרת תערוכות ראשונות לאמנים צעירים, בתמיכת קרן משפחת שטיינברג ואוניברסיטת חיפה\n__________________________\nIn a sculpture and video installation created especially for this exhibition, Nabaa Fawaz addresses a small yet uncontrollable bodily problem—one she didn’t perceive through her own senses but discovered through others. This discovery led her to wonder how others perceive her: Is the problem visible? Is it significant? Can it disappear? Her attempts to suppress and conceal the problem only made it impossible to ignore, amplifying its presence in her life.\nFawaz grapples with questions of concealment, shame, and repression, along with the need to speak so as not to remain alone. She navigates between wanting to acknowledge the problem and feeling compelled not to reveal its details. She attempts to walk the fine line between refusing to hide and the fear of provoking repulsion. To this end, she takes necessary precautions, constructing viewing mechanisms that provide protection and maintain a safe distance. Will this tactic help the artist perceive the problem through her own senses? Does the problem even exist? And is mere acknowledgment enough to cope with it?\n

SUMMARY:רחם קולקטיבית. אדוה דרורי – Collective Womb by Adva Drori
ההתמקדות שלה בעמלנות נשית מסורתית מדגישה את תפקידן המרכזי של נשים בהובלת שינויים חברתיים וקהילתיים, ומחברת בין מסורות עבר לאופני פעולה עכשוויים.\n______________________________\nAdva Drori’s exhibition Collective Womb centers on a performative and participatory action. Over three days, in the pool at the museum’s mosaic courtyard, Drori created three large felted works made from natural sheep’s wool in collaboration with the community. These works form the core of her new installation. The felting process, which involves intense contact with natural raw material, water, and soap, generates both personal and communal interaction. The physical friction with the material recalls the need for touch and human connection, especially during times of social rupture and personal crisis. After felting, Drori washes the sheets, and the soft, fragile material binds together through the washing process, becoming strong and resilient yet still breathing and alive.\nFrom this point of departure, Drori creates a site-specific installation designed for the exhibition space. She incorporates different types of textiles, as well as tents, beanbag chairs, and cushions covered with felt sheets, wool, and fabric. Drori transforms the museum’s exhibition space into a kind of collective womb, offering the public a space in which to linger, to nestle alone, or interact with other visitors.Against the backdrop of our bleeding, fractured, and fragmented reality, Drori creates an environment of dialogue and empathy, where trauma and healing are in constant conversation. Through this action, she connects art, body, and community. Her focus on traditional women’s craft emphasizes the central role women play in leading social and communal change, linking past traditions with contemporary modes of action.\n

SUMMARY:Before Me, Behind Me, and All Around Me / מאחורי, מלפני ומצדדי
DESCRIPTION:Fatima Abu Roomi\nFatima Abu Roomi’s works, which break down the borderbetween drawing and painting, between the covered and the exposed, deal withsocial boundaries and their relation to covering and exposure. They look attraditional Arab clothing with critical eyes as part of the policing machinethat controls and punishes women in a patriarchal society.\n“Many have asked, but it is exactly the opposite- these are the parts that are not painted, this is the original sketch I make before I add the color to the painting. The intention is to create tension and drama in the painting of construction versus demolition, so that the painting appears to be building itself and painting itself and to be erasing the color”.\n\n

SUMMARY:Dafna Kaffeman: Fragile Land
DESCRIPTION:The works of contemporary artist Dafna Kaffeman, which have been integrated into the exhibition of ancient glass, revive the local glass industry, which until the beginning of the 20th century was one of the important traditional crafts in the country. In her works, Kaffeman uses contemporary glass rods and ancient raw glass chunks found in excavations to recreate wheat, thorns, the red everlasting (“blood of the Maccabees”) flower, local acacia and pine trees, and even the Oriental hornet, a species that has inhabited the region since ancient times.\nFrom budding and blooming to wilting and withering, these delicate creations are moments frozen in time; they are portrayed with extreme realism, but will never grow again. The display touches upon the contrast between disappearance and continuity, frailty and resilience, transparency and opacity, memory of the past and the fragile reality of our present lives.\nCurator: Ruth E. SUMMARY:The Planets Go Wild / הפלאנטות משתוללות
DESCRIPTION:Sara Arsenyuk was born in Crimea and immigrated to Israel in 2002 at age five together with her twin sister, Elishevar. Arsenyuk studied in the Multidisciplinary Art program at Shenkar College, and her work draws on Fantastic Realism in the tradition of the Vienna School, combined with a surrealist sensibility close to Magritte and elements of Pattern Painting.\nThe exhibition centers on planets painted as glowing spheres of energy, set within scenes where other, stranger events are quietly taking place around them. Arsenyuk traces the idea for the series back to a dream. Curator Shaul Shalev describes the paintings as existing in a kind of waking daydream, while for the artist the planets themselves stand in for something more inward – souls, or fragments of consciousness, suspended in space. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Doron J. Lurie.\n\nשרה ארסניוק נולדה בקרים ועלתה לישראל בשנת 2002, בגיל חמש, יחד עם אחותה התאומה אלישבע.

SUMMARY:Balanced Testimony /
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Sigal Kaspi, the exhibition brings together painters, photographers, an architect and interdisciplinary artists working in Israel: Raida Adon, Nasrin Abu Bakr, Nirvana Dabbach, Mai Daas, Amira Zian, Samah Shahada, Razan Shami, Fatma Shannan, and Sophie Abu Shqara.\nBalanced Testimony examines the classical motif of the reclining female figure, a convention historically defined by a male gaze, through the work of Arab and Druze women artists. Rather than being framed by that convention, the artists actively position themselves within it, reclaiming agency over how they are represented.\nעדות מאוזנת, באוצרות סיגל כספי, מציגה יחד ציירות, צלמות, אדריכלית ואמניות רב-תחומיות הפועלות בישראל: רידא אדון, נסרין אבו בכר, נירוונה דבאח, מאי דעאס, אמירה זיאן, סמאח שחאדה, רזאן שאמי, פאטמה שנאן וסופי אבו שקרה.\nהתערוכה בוחנת את המוטיב הקלאסי של הדמות הנשית השרועה, מוסכמה שעוצבה מבחינה היסטורית על ידי מבט גברי, דרך עבודתן של אמניות ערביות ודרוזיות.

SUMMARY:Fashioning Animals
DESCRIPTION:The Museum of Man and the Living presents   Fashioning Animals  a new exhibition featuring 12 Israeli fashion designers, exploring the ancient connection between humankind and the animal world through fashion, body and nature.\nParticipating fashion designers: Yaron Minkowski, Kaye Long, Asaf Peran, Rotem Pinci, Aviad Arik Herman, Ravid Haken, Eden Ben Ami, Ada Hefetz, Itay Bar, Shai Mor, Meirav Peleg and Maor Zabar.\nAt the center of the exhibition are 12 original fashion designs created especially by Israeli fashion designers, inspired by animals from the museum’s scientific collection. Each designer was invited to choose an animal, observe its body structure, colors, movement, defense or camouflage mechanisms, and translate these qualities into the language of fashion.\nThe exhibition presents the transition from zoological object to wearable design: from butterflies, the Israeli gazelle, the crescent-caped lophorina, the swan, the starry pufferfish, the kangaroo, snake, fennec fox, white-breasted kingfisher, giraffe, grasshopper and iguana — into garments, corsets, headpieces, textures, volumes and material explorations.\nAlongside the fashion designs, the animals and items from the scientific collection that served as sources of inspiration for the designers will also be displayed.\nFor example, the exhibition will feature a shirt that evokes the warmth and protection of the red kangaroo’s pouch, and an inflatable corset inspired by the pufferfish, which uses the inflation of its body as a defense mechanism. Additional works explore feathers, scales, fur, warning colors, camouflage, movement, skeletal structure and courtship mechanisms, translating them into cuts, layers, textures and volumes.\n“Animal Fashion” offers a view of nature not merely as a source of visual inspiration, but as a complex system of design solutions. The animals in the exhibition do not appear only as aesthetic images, but as a starting point for thinking about function, material, covering, protection and movement — questions that also lie at the heart of the fashion world.\nAlongside the designs, visitors will be exposed to the designers’ work processes, as well as to a photographic series created especially for the exhibition, in which the designs are shown worn and moving on the body.\nThe exhibition is presented in the educational center and galleries of the Museum of Man and the Living.\nPhoto production:\nPhotography: Ran Yehezkel\nModel: Stav Strashko\nMakeup: Sophie Turiel\nHair: Omri Levy\nJewelry: Galit Rondin\nVideo and social media: Moshe Miron\nProduction assistant: Hagit Ita\nOpening hours:\nSunday–Thursday: 10:00–18:00\nFriday: 10:00–14:00\nSaturday: 10:00–18:00\n__________________________\n\n.

SUMMARY:הילדה שכתבה: מגילת אסתר של לונה אמברון – The Girl who Wrote
DESCRIPTION:Luna Ambron’s Esther Scroll\nOn the 10th of Adar 1, 5527 (February 9, 1767), Luna, daughter of Leone Ambron of Rome, completed scribing an Esther Scroll and a richly decorated parchment sheet containing the ceremonial blessings and liturgical poems read on Purim. The scroll is one of the very few canonical Hebrew manuscripts worldwide identified as having been written by a female scribe, and is the centrepiece of this exhibition.\nFor the first time, the exhibition brings together the only three known Esther Scrolls and Purim blessing sheets signed by women, all produced in Italy. Displayed alongside them is a selection of rare, decorated Hebrew manuscripts penned by female scribes, highlighting women’s often-overlooked contributions to Jewish manuscript culture.\nThe exhibition also offers a glimpse into the world of Luna’s family, the Ambrons of Rome. Through outstanding objects and documents, it explores a family whose members were prominent both within the Jewish community and in the wider Christian and cosmopolitan milieu of the city.\nCurator: Anna Nizza-Caplan\n The Isidore and Anne Falk Information Center for Jewish Art and Life\n

SUMMARY:Material Fatigue /
DESCRIPTION:Material Fatigue by Nelly Agassi takes the radical idea of free play as its point of departure, revisiting Niki de Saint Phalle’s iconic playground HaMifletzet/Golem (Jerusalem, 1972) to ask what forms of freedom children are still permitted to experience. Through a newly commissioned body of work, including a monumental rope installation, a video work, and a necklace containing the artist’s sons’ milk teeth, Agassi asks who authorizes freedom, whose anxieties shape children’s environments, and how the hidden dialectic between protection and autonomy continues to structure both play and society.\nSet against the backdrop of a reality marked by militarization, surveillance, and the erosion of shared moral and social values, the exhibition reveals how systems of care gradually harden into systems of limitation. Rather than offering answers, Material Fatigue investigates whether free play can still open a temporary suspension of the social order, and whether, within that fragile space, alternative ways of future remain possible.\nThe exhibition is accompanied by a lithograph and an artist book by Niki de Saint Phalle. The production of the installation was made possible through the support of the Mifal HaPais Council for the Culture and Arts.\nCurator: László Háfra.\nעייפות החומר מאת נלי אגסי יוצאת מנקודת המוצא הרדיקלית של משחק חופשי, וחוזרת אל מגרש המשחקים האייקוני של ניקי דה סאן פאל, “המפלצת”/גולם (ירושלים, 1972), כדי לשאול אילו צורות של חופש עדיין מותרות לילדים.

SUMMARY:Controlled Burning /
DESCRIPTION:Controlled Burning is Shirley Moneyhon’s first solo exhibition, awarded as the fourth edition of the Beeri Gallery Prize from the Fresh Color fair, which includes a solo show, a materials budget, artist compensation and an accompanying artist book. Moneyhon holds a BA in visual communication from Shenkar and is currently completing an MFA at the same institution. The exhibition is curated by Sofie Mackie, with Michaela Katsevich as assistant curator.\nWorking across painting, drawing, ceramics, casting and wax, Moneyhon explores domestic, mythic and ritualistic spaces through the female figure who inhabits them, examining feminine ritual actions and the body itself as a way into everyday symbols, customs and totems drawn from primordial, cross-culturally symbolic worlds.\nHer scenes are chaotic, uncontrolled, bizarre and often humorous, filled with flames, skulls and other elements that deliberately unsettle order and reality: ceramic figures with exaggerated smiles and long hands, nude birds, and other unsettling domestic imagery. Candles and wax recur throughout, used to explore the ritual aspects of controlled fire and of intimate mystery.\nבערה מבוקרת היא תערוכת היחיד הראשונה של שירלי מוניהון, זוכת פרס גלריה בארי הרביעי מיריד Fresh Color, הכולל תערוכת יחיד, תקציב לחומרים, שכר טרחה לאמנית וספר אמן נלווה.

SUMMARY:Orit Hofshi: Inspection Chambers
DESCRIPTION:Orit Hofshi is Recipient of the Lazar Prize for Contemporary Israeli Art\nCurator: Irena Gordon\nLandscape is commonly defined as all the visible features of an area of land— a totality perceived and interpreted by the human subject. In Mishnaic Hebrew, the word nof (landscape) also denotes the upper part of a tree or plant, its crown or canopy. Space is a three-dimensional extent and may also refer to a spacious and expansive domain whose boundaries lie far apart, as well as a gap, a void, or a blank area. The word place carries a broad range of meanings, including: a portion of space available or designated for someone; a vacancy or unoccupied position; a position in a sequence or hierarchy; a person׳s rank or status; a geographical location, venue, or setting: “Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place” (Genesis 1:9), or “for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place” (Jeremiah 7:32). In Hebrew, the word for place, in its definite form, also serves as an appellation for God (ha-Makom).\nOrit Hofshi׳s (b. 1959, Kibbutz Matsuva) work articulates the intersecting interpretations of landscape, space, and place, as she repeatedly returns to the woodblocks underlying her images, exploring their multiplicity, their incarnations, their modes of existence, as well as their shadows, their ghosts. Her material and formal, conceptual and mental actions themselves constitute a landscape, a space, and a place, carrying history and time, and the relations between culture and nature: earth and water, humans and animals, seem to emerge from one another, mourning and sustaining each other. It is a body that constantly probes itself, its survival, its loss, as a visual archive that bears traces of the time of its formation.\nThe images dwell in their own ruins, perhaps in their becoming, in an intermediate realm between a concrete place and nowhere; they unfold as cross-sections, rhythms, resonances, while the cracked, tumultuous earth occupies most of the works׳ visual field. In a continuous seismic movement, in the absence of tranquil or controlled relationship between the figures in the works and the place they inhabit, and between the viewer and the landscape unfolding before her, the horizon is agitated and the surface disintegrates.\nWe are confronted with a hybrid language consisting of woodcut prints on handmade paper, as well as the woodblocks from which they were printed, unprinted carved woodblocks, ink and pencil drawings and paintings, rubbings, monotype prints, and spatial installations. In the exhibition Inspection Chambers, all of these converge into an overarching structure, a visual panorama that can be entered, studied, lived in, while evoking memory.\nOriginating in ninth-century East Asia, woodcut is the oldest of the reproduction techniques based on a matrix and copies. This printing technique reached Europe in the 15th century, becoming a central means of disseminating images and refining representational techniques. In various currents of modernism, and especially in Expressionism, woodcut became a vehicle of ethical and political protest, charged with profound psychological and social meanings.\nGrounded in woodcut, Hofshi׳s monumental work undermines the distinction between printing block, image and object, between original and reproduction, and is shaped through a virtuoso, painterly and sculptural mastery of the various means of expression. Her images, their traces and echoes, accumulate into an archive from which she continually draws in creating new compositions and meanings. Work on the large-scale pieces is intensive and demands considerable physical effort: drawing, cutting the images into the wooden boards, hand-printing by rubbing a wooden spoon across vast sheets of paper, modulating the pressure applied in the printing process, continued drawing, rubbing and transfer, and finally creating combinations and structures composed of the woodblocks, the papers, and in many cases—both. For many years, Hofshi regarded color as a mere distraction, but in the last decade, her largely monochromatic palette has diversified, and she has incorporated additional print and drawing techniques, in an attempt to deepen and intensify the sense of alienation, estrangement, tension, and existential rupture.\nThe current, large-scale exhibition presents a recent body of work alongside earlier pieces, leading the spectator into the heart of the dialogue between print and installation, the printed image and spatial experience. Print, as a reproductive, mobile, archival medium that signifies historical time, encounters installation as a one-off, site- and time-specific medium, a medium of the present. Into this constellation, Hofshi introduces, for the first time, readymade objects, inspection chambers: subterranean structures used in infrastructure for sewage, drainage, electricity, and communication, usually made of concrete or plastic. The painterly image of the inspection chambers is thus set against their material presence in the exhibition space.\nAs the daughter of Holocaust survivors and an artist working in Israel in a present marked by a vortex of violence, Hofshi׳s work is imbued with an awareness of displacement, destruction, and war. It converses with the universal and timeless, while remaining rooted in the local historical and political reality. It carries landscape within it as a continuous tension between nature and culture, between memory and erasure, as an active trauma. The inspection chambers, which are a basic component in contemporary survival infrastructures, are connected in Hofshi׳s work, primarily, to water resources, to its necessity, and to the struggle over it, as part of the broader conflict over nature, land, and place. The landscape genre in Israeli art has, from its inception, been bound up with the formation of national identity, with sublime and romantic visions, with representations of the local and its abstraction in intersecting, antithetical narratives, with sight and oversight, vision and blindness. Hofshi׳s cinematic-panoramic gesture evokes an archaeological excavation that moves backward and forward from a point of departure in the present. Time in her works is not linear: it flashes like an open wound. Much like the infrastructure remnants and monuments, the human and animal figures are both witnesses to the occurrences and inseparable from them; they turn away from the events, and yet remain stubbornly rooted in them, in gestures of lament and grief. The turbulent, all-encompassing views in her work are material and mental ruins experienced physically, calling the viewer to concentrate on the surface while delving into the depths of her modus operandi.\nSpecial thanks to Nittai Hofshi for the creative partnership in spirit and in practice.\n

SUMMARY:Not by Bear Alone /
DESCRIPTION:Solo exhibition by street artist Eli Revzin, curated by Amnon Michaeli.\nSome people you meet by chance, and only years later do you understand how meaningful that meeting was. I met Eli Revzin when Ana Kogan chose to paint him on my wall, as part of a series of street-artist portraits in the neighborhood. That was already more than seven years ago.\nI remember being struck right away by the contrast: on one hand, my image of a street artist, free, a bit wild, not always predictable; on the other hand, Eli, a remarkably precise, professional and meticulously organized personality. Eli is a rigorous artist who thinks about the smallest details, but more than anything, he is someone you can rely on. He proved that to me most clearly on the day he made the monumental work at the gallery’s entrance, the very day the war with Iran began: missiles, sirens, uncertainty, but as far as Eli was concerned, the job had to be finished, and he stood and kept working.\nI invite you to his solo exhibition at the gallery, to see up close the works, the precision, the power, and above all the world of a street artist who is far more than that term might lead us to think.\nתערוכת יחיד של אמן הרחוב אלי רבזין, באוצרות אמנון מיכאלי\nיש אנשים שאתה פוגש במקרה, ורק שנים אחר כך אתה מבין עד כמה המפגש הזה היה משמעותי.

DESCRIPTION:Opening event Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 19:30, at TAO, Wingate 168, Herzliya.\nThe exhibition offers a new perspective on the transient and the fleeting as a starting point for creation and growth, rather than an endpoint. It invites us to find beauty and softness in the marks of time, in wear and disintegration, understanding that these testify, more than anything, to the very existence of life, and carry within them an opening for healing and hope.\nLeShaata is a group exhibition presenting emerging and leading designers engaging with the presence of transience in the local design field. Participating designers: Yaakov Kaufman, Dganit Stern Schocken, Iris Nesher, Yuval Etzioni, Uri Shifrin Inbar, Reddish (Naama Steinbock and Idan Friedman), Maria Marfeld, Sara Shachak, Amira Zayan, Esther Nalla, Bella Kaminsky, Ben Molina, Tal Narkis, Nitzan Ben Zimra, Adi Van Velsen, Daniella Sarig.

This timeless reference frames the concept of “work” in its broadest sense – not only as labor and craftsmanship, but also as action, agency and ethical responsibility – ideas that resonate deeply with our current reality.\nOver 1,500 proposals were reviewed, and the selected projects span the full spectrum of craft media – ceramics, glass, textile, paper, fiber, metal, and jewelry – as well as a wide range of design disciplines including architecture, industrial design, visual communication, video and performative practices. The Biennale will showcase both emerging and established voices, drawing an up-to-date picture of the vibrant Israeli craft and design scene while also exploring new directions and challenges.\nMany of the works present bold combinations of traditional techniques and cutting-edge technologies, alongside experimental and process-driven practices with particular focus on cultural heritage and environmental sustainability.\nAs part of the Biennale, specially curated projects will take place in MUZA’s permanent collection pavilions. These collaborations between the museum’s curators and invited artists and designers will respond to the wide-ranging collections generating new connections between past and present.\nThroughout the months of the Biennale, three Academic Labs of will successively offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse into research-based creative processes.\nThe Biennale will be accompanied by a range of collateral events, including workshops, gallery talks, and encounters with the artists, conferences, interdisciplinary events, performances, and other activities at the Jack Joseph and Morton Mendel Park (“Bustan”).\nCuration: Henrietta Eliezer Brunner, Galit Gaon\nOpening Hours\nSunday – Closed\nMonday, Tuesday, Wednesday10:00–16:00\nThursday10:00–18:00\nFriday10:00–14:00\nSaturday10:00–16:00\n

SUMMARY:2026 Jerusalem Biennale – 7th Edition
DESCRIPTION:The Jerusalem Biennale was founded in 2013 as a platform for curators and artists seeking to show contemporary exhibits and artworks that touch, in one way or another, on the Jewish world of content. The Biennale has become a centerpiece of the city’s art scene featuring dozens of art exhibitions by hundreds of artists from Israel and abroad. The exhibits are mounted in museums, galleries, public venues, and as pop-ups throughout Jerusalem, alongside music, dance performances, theater, and discourse. So far six Jerusalem Biennales have been held, and we are now gearing up for the seventh.\nThe theme of the seventh Jerusalem Biennale, De Profundis (ממעמקים), prompts exploration of many and varied issues. Our point of departure is the need to gaze into our very hearts and souls. Such introspection is an essential step for therapy, rehabilitation, healing, and rebuilding. The descent into our depths invites  the meticulous excavating and dissecting of key issues, down to their roots, so as to uncover them layer by layer, employing the mental fortitude necessary to draw out revival from our emotional, sensory, and symbolic depths. This is an essential task, as revealing these layers reflects courageous and proactive engagement, both in thought and in action. Thus, like diamonds mined from deep within the earth, De Profundis also expresses a forward-looking gaze, hope and optimism.\nNaturally, all of this relates to the events of October 7th and the ensuing war, which sent shockwaves through Israel and the world. Like an earthquake, when a gaping hole opens in the earth’s surface, October 7th brought up pain, loss, brokenness, and disappointment, alongside solidarity, growth, and hope, all of which require both coping and processing. The assumptions that were upended, the truths that emerged, and the old order that was called into question, taught us that reality is dynamic, and demands organizing anew. Since October 7th, everything that lay underground took on chilling meanings. This is an invitation to propose a curatorial and artistic discussion of the concepts of above and below the surface, the exposed and the concealed, the concealed and that waiting to be revealed, that which is accessible and that which cannot be accessed.\nIn addition to these themes, yet directly related thereto, the title De Profundis prompts a discussion of the place and power of prayer. The words “Out of the Depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord” [Psalms 130:1] are about calling out to God for help, salvation, and rescue from moments of distress and danger, as well as expressing metaphorical anguish. This psalm, which is recited on Yom Kippur and in some communities every day of the Ten Days of Repentance, has been added to the regular liturgy in many congregations since Tishrei 5784 as a tangible expression of turbulent times and to offer the consolation that many find in prayer.\n

DESCRIPTION:Chelouche Gallery is pleased to open a new exhibition season with two shows that bring together artists from different generations, offering fresh perspectives on the canon of Israeli art.\nSolo Exhibition: Tama Goren, “Moti, How Was the Stabbing?” Guest artist: Meira Shemesh. Curator: Nira Itzhaki.\nTama is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Tel Aviv.\nGoren’s art studies in high school and her dedication to painting since being a young girl, followed by her experience of working as a fashion model in London, Paris, Milan, and Athens for over a decade, add a unique perspective to her resume.\nGoren began exhibiting in 2011 and has since presented nine solo exhibitions and participated in dozens of group exhibitions. Goren’s works are typically forceful, expressive, Avant-Garde, dark, and strange. It occasionally includes a social critique combined with allusions to folklore, the Holocaust, German folk tales, and other unique combinations of symbols and subjects that are not connected to reality. All are presented with sadness and Dark humor.\nGoren’s major projects include exhibiting in Berlin’s Circle1 gallery and publishing an artist book with the poet Daniel Oz. Furthermore, she had a solo exhibition in 2019 in the Zaritzky Artists House TLV curated by the artist Tsibi Geva.\nRecently, she exhibited a solo show “The Long-Dead,” (2021) in Tel Aviv’s Hamidrasha Art Gallery, curated by Yair Barak followed by the duo show “Interested in a Double Headed” (2022) with artist Avner Ben-Gal.\nThis is Goren’s 10th solo exhibition curator by Yair Barak as the second part of their continued work.\n.

SUMMARY:Nadav Weissman // Moshe Kupferman – Duo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Chelouche Gallery is pleased to open a new exhibition season with two shows that bring together artists from different generations, offering fresh perspectives on the canon of Israeli art.\nDuo Exhibition: Nadav Weissman // Moshe Kupferman. Curator: Nira Itzhaki.\nNadav Weissman’s works have engaged in a long-term dialogue with the work of Moshe Kupferman, grounded in a deep affinity not only with Kupferman’s formal language, but also with the way drawing embodies action. In Kupferman’s work, the line, the layer, the erasure, and the accumulation are not merely visual devices, but traces of an ongoing process in which the painting is simultaneously constructed and revealed. Weissman echoes this approach, translating it from the two-dimensional plane into space and material: acts of sawing, cutting, engraving, and drawing in graphite produce layers that are at once material, painterly, and archaeological. The encounter between the works creates a space of resonance and difference: while in Kupferman’s work the layers and marks accumulate on the surface of the paper, in Weissman’s they extend beyond the support, open into space, and generate gaps within it. In this way, a dialogue emerges between two artistic practices concerned with acts of accumulation and subtraction, and with the ways in which the trace of an action becomes an image.\n.

SUMMARY:So Let Us Now Begin at the Beginning
DESCRIPTION: So Let Us Now Begin at the Beginning היא קרובה יותר לניסיון לשחזר ולשרטט את ממדי האסון, האובדן והאבל המשותפים, מתוך הידיעה שגם מה שלא ניתן לתקן ממשיך לדרוש צורה ומשמעות.\nאוצרות התערוכה: סנדרה וייל וכרמית גלילי\n_________________________________\nThe group exhibition So Let Us Now Begin at the Beginning brings together works by four internationally renowned artists from the Magasin III Collection with works by two local artists. Christian Boltanski, Paul Chan, Jonathan Monk, and Tony Oursler each have a longstanding and close relationship with Magasin III Museum for Contemporary Art and have previously been presented at its exhibition space in Stockholm, in group and solo shows. Meanwhile, the exhibition marks the first presentation of works by artists Yael Burstein and Samah Shihadi at Magasin III Jaffa.\nTurning to the collection, at a time of isolation, both cultural and physical, when the movement of artworks, artists, and institutions across Israeli borders has become increasingly fragile, is not merely a practical gesture, but also an opportunity to reconsider these works through the circumstances and contexts of the present moment. The works, previously exhibited in Stockholm, acquire a different resonance in Jaffa – one shaped by time, the local context, and a new audience encountering them here for the first time.\nTaking its title from Jonathan Monk’s work, the exhibition revolves around the desire to begin again – a longing that, in recent years in Israel, has taken on an especially urgent and painful tone: the hypothetical possibility of returning to the moment when things might still have taken another shape. Monk’s neon work (2006) presents the artist’s birthplace, Leicester, written backwards and upside down. Both playful and disorienting, the work proposes a kind of mechanical reversal — a gesture that carries the self-aware simplicity of an almost childlike fantasy: to rewind history itself. Yet it also points to the impossibility of truly returning to the way things were before.\nAcross the exhibition, bodies, faces, shadows, and identities repeatedly appear as if suspended between disappearance and reconstruction. In Christian Boltanski’s Être à nouveau (Being Anew) (2005), anonymous obituary black and white portraits are endlessly recombined into unstable composite faces, as though memory itself is attempting to resist finality of loss. Paul Chan’s 5th Light  (2007) transforms the visual language of the September 11 catastrophe into a haunting meditation on creation and destruction. Falling bodies and drifting objects, including weapons shattering into fragments—evoke both biblical imagery and collective trauma. As the colors of light gradually shift from morning to evening, the work unfolds as a reflection on catastrophe and the human search for hope. Tony Oursler’s work Get It Right )1995) projects human facial expressions onto motionless dolls, blurring the line between the tangible and the imagined. Their shifting faces and voices feel at once strange and intimately familiar and fix onto the figures expressions and emotions that would normally vanish in the blink of an eye.\nAlongside these works, Yael Burstein’s and Samah Shihadi’s works approach the body as a vulnerable site shaped by rupture, memory, and transformation. In Burstein’s sculpture Gravity and Grace (2026), a figure close to the ground resists fixed meaning, suspended between collapse and renewed ascent. Confronting the fragility of the human body, Burstein also presentsScribble (2020), a wild yet stable primordial form that even the light cast upon it cannot fully recover. Shihadi’s powerful and realist self-portraits, Two Women in One (2017) and Facing(2016), negotiate the tension between representation and a reality that resists it, while at the same time preserving the lives they depict and bearing witness to their fragility.\nThroughout the exhibition, video works projected onto unexpected objects, sculptures and drawings, discuss the possibility – as well as the impossibility – of beginning again repeatedly emerges. This renewed beginning is not necessarily synonymous with moving forward; rather, it is first and foremost a reflection on the human desire to erase what has happened and to imagine another future out of the ruins of the present. It is closer to an attempt to trace the dimensions of shared catastrophe, loss, and mourning, while acknowledging that even what cannot be repaired continues to demand form and meaning.\nCurators: Sandra Weil and Karmit Galili\n

SUMMARY:Vision of the New Bones: Jewish Imaginations after 1940
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition seeks to broaden perspectives on art created in the aftermath of World War II and to illuminate a phenomenon that has yet to receive sustained scholarly attention: artists with ties to Judaism who experienced the horrors of the war and the Holocaust during their formative years, and whose work contains a visionary element bearing traces of personal trauma and a shattered reality. This phenomenon appears not only in visual art but also in broader cultural expressions – film, music, and literature – all of which are represented in the exhibition.\nMany of the featured artists and creators experienced persecution or loss because of their identity, while for others, trauma is present as an intergenerational shadow. They created from a place of inner vision and in dialogue with the world of Jewish spirituality. Their works give voice to individual and unconventional perspectives and reveal personal interpretations of traumatic reality.\nFor most of the creators, art was a means of exploring and mapping the unconscious dimensions of the human psyche, and a necessary stage in forging a safe space in which to rebuild their lives. Through symbols and traditions of the past, they articulate a new world that makes life possible: a vision of new bones.\nCurator: Ori Drumer.

SUMMARY:NonFinito
DESCRIPTION:NonFinito brings together new work by six artists who have spent the past year working side by side in the studios above Artport’s gallery: Yasmin Davis, Oree Holban, Noa Yafe, Roy Menachem Markovich, Jonathan Omer Mizrahi, and Naama Roth.\nThe exhibition takes its title from the art-historical term for a work left intentionally unfinished, framing artmaking as an ongoing process rather than a finished object. It points to everything that happens before, around, and in between what eventually reaches the gallery: searching, testing, changes of direction, conversations, doubts, accidents, and discoveries that make up a year of artistic work.\nIndividual approaches range from constructing nested studio spaces that expose the artist’s own working method, to using malleable materials to explore emotional vulnerability and fluid identity, fragmenting images across video screens, examining moments of creative risk and breakthrough, recovering forgotten urban histories, and paying close attention to overlooked details.\nנונפיניטו מציגה עבודות חדשות של שישה אמנים ואמניות שעבדו זה לצד זה, במשך השנה האחרונה, בסטודיו מעל גלריית ארטפורט: יסמין דייויס, אורי הולבן, נועה יפה, רועי מנחם מרקוביץ’, יונתן עומר מזרחי ונעמה רוט.\nשם התערוכה שאול ממושג היסטוריית האמנות לעבודה שהושארה באופן מכוון לא גמורה, ומציג את יצירת האמנות כתהליך מתמשך ולא כאובייקט סופי.

SUMMARY:Looping Fourhead
DESCRIPTION:Looping Fourhead is an audio-visual installation by Beno Hendler, built around a multi-channel sound system with four speakers playing separate, evolving layers of audio across three sections based on a single musical scale, designed to integrate organically with the gallery’s physical space. Hendler built a dynamic system that allows real-time control of tempo, effects and playback direction, with every change in sound synchronized to lighting by Lior Mittal, creating an immersive experience scaled to the room.\nCurated by Assaf Sabag.\nלופינג פורהד היא עבודת מיצג אור-קולי מאת בנו הנדלר, הבנויה סביב מערכת סאונד רב-ערוצית עם ארבעה רמקולים המנגנים שכבות סאונד נפרדות ומתפתחות בשלושה חלקים המבוססים על סולם מוזיקלי אחד, שנועדה להשתלב באופן אורגני עם החלל הפיזי של הגלריה.

הביקור בתערוכה בהתאם לשיקול דעתך האישי.\n\n\n\n\n\n________________________\n\nTom Wesselmann (1931–2004), a pivotal figure in 1960s American Pop Art, created bold, direct images that mirrored the culture from which they emerged. Through still lifes and nudes—fragmented, flat, and monumental—he reimagined the tradition of painting in an age marked by advertising and mass media. His work shifts between intimacy and exposure, attraction and discomfort.\n\n\n\n\n\nBorn in Cincinnati, Ohio, into a middle-class family, Wesselmann studied psychology before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While in military service (1951–53), he began drawing cartoons for his fellow soldiers—a defining moment that directed his life toward art. After his discharge, he moved to New York and studied at the Cooper Union, where he was exposed to the generation of Abstract Expressionist artists who dominated the art scene at the time: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko. Against the dominance of their expressive painting, Wesselmann chose to pursue a crisp, sensual figurative painting with a vivid visual presence, deriving its force from billboards, magazines, and consumer culture, developing a visual language that was both personal and iconic, formal and seductive.\nEmerging at the heart of the sexual revolution in the United States, his work was a direct response to the new openness around sexuality, the body, and social norms. It reflects a world in which the seams between private and public, between eroticism and artistic representation, and even around pornography, began to unravel. Today, these themes resurface from a different perspective, in an era also characterized by waves of conservatism, caution, and renewed censorship. Wesselmann’s work thus continues to elicit complex questions concerning gaze, power, representation, and the body’s place in the cultural field.\nIn his major series from the 1960s—Still Life, Great American Nude, and Bedroom Paintings—Wesselmann combined fragments of domestic life, female and male bodies, and art-historical references. He drew inspiration from the paintings of the great modernists, and especially from Henri Matisse’s female nudes, in which he found a paradigm incorporating color, body, and sensuality. In Wesselmann’s oeuvre, nudity is not conceived as an individual portrait, but as a structure of symbols and signs (lips, breasts, cigarettes, furniture, and everyday objects), which together form an image that hovers between idealization, irony, and a critical gaze at the culture of the spectacle.\nThe exhibition focuses on the fifteen years from 1960 to 1975, expanding its perspective through dialogue with works by artists of Wesselmann’s generation such as Andy Warhol, as well as with contemporary artists like Mickalene Thomas. These juxtapositions reveal how the images developed by Wesselmann in the second half of the 20th century continue to resonate, transform, and accrue new meanings in the digital age, where boundaries between body, gaze, and media are constantly being reshaped.\n\n\n\n\n\n—\nAll the works on view are from the Mugrabi Collection, unless otherwise indicated. This exhibition contains sexually explicit content. Viewer discretion is advised.\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:סיפורי נעליים – Shoe Stories
DESCRIPTION:We rarely stop to look closely at our shoes. They are always there, beneath our feet, accompanying us with every step—yet they tell far more than we might imagine. Beyond their practical function, shoes reflect identity, status, beliefs, memories, fashion, technology, and dreams. They appear in myths and fairy tales, signify social and cultural belonging, and at times express power, prestige, protest, or freedom.\nFor the first time, the Israel Museum presents an exhibition devoted entirely to shoes. Drawing on the Museum’s diverse collections alongside special loans, the exhibition reveals the human, cultural, and historical stories embedded in one of the most familiar objects of everyday life.\nThe exhibition explores a range of themes: shoes endowed with power and magic; impossible shoes created to impress, signal status, or challenge the limits of the body; ancient footwear thousands of years old that reveals surprising connections between past and present; shoes as works of art and products of innovative, groundbreaking design; and, of course, Israeli shoes—from biblical and pioneering sandals to locally iconic footwear. Together, they raise questions about identity, culture, and belonging.\nAlongside dozens of rare objects from different periods and cultures, the exhibition features immersive installations and interactive projects created especially for it by Israeli artists and designers working in theater, sound, new media, design, and visual art. These works offer additional ways to enter the stories behind the shoes and to encounter them from unexpected perspectives.\nUltimately, shoes do more than tell the story of the time or culture in which they were made—they also tell the personal stories of the people who wear them.\n Curator: Orna Granot\n Ruth Youth Wing\n

תערוכה זו היא קריאה להבנה חדשה את עצמנו, ושל התפקיד שאנו ממלאים בעיצוב העבר של עתידנו.\nמשתתפים:\nרות אברהם, מוריץ אהלרט; אורן אלדר, עידית קופסקי; אור אלכסנדרוביץ’; יעקב ברוסמן ;שרון גולן;\nשירה גליטמן; ירמי הופמן; אלעד הורן, לב פבלוב, כריסטינה איידנזון; אלס ורבקל; אימן טבעוני;\nיונתן כהן; שירה לוי-בנימיני; ויקה ליבמן, יובל אברהם; לו מוריה; יעל מוריה: סטודיו מא, גליה גור זאב;\nאדווה מטר; יאסמינה נסיבה; טולה עמיר; דבורה פינטו פדדה, יפעת פינקלמן; פול קרנס; אורי שלום;\nהילה שמר, אופיר שכמורוב\n___________________________\nCurators: Friedrich von Borries, Sabrina Cegla\nStarting Point: Rethinking Heritage\nArchitecture and the built environment carry the stories and beliefs of the time they were created. They represent culture, political conflicts, power structures, and technological, economic and ecological conditions. In this exhibition, we aim to reflect on what we leave for generations to come, so we initiated a thought experiment: How does our view of the present shift if we imagine ourselves as future beings looking back at our own past?\nContext: A Conflicted Geography\nWe are living through an ongoing war. The challenge of imagining potential shared futures and pasts for this region has never been more difficult, or more needed. In line with current investigations into the era of man (the Anthropocene), this thought experiment visualizes the effects of human activity in shaping the face of the planet: not only as a physical force shaping the built environment, but also as a cultural, political, and social mechanism that influences how we imagine the future, interpret the past, and experience the present. Architecture plays a decisive role in this process.\nProcess: A Series of Dialogues\nThis exhibition is a collective architectural research project, emerging from dialogues with 28 local architects who joined us in this curatorial experiment. Their images and visions, presented here, offer multiple, decentralized perspectives on built heritage. Their contributions tell stories not only of Tel Aviv and Jaffa’s future heritage but also of their personal worldviews, thus seeking to situate the area within wider geographies and imaginaries. You can hear the architects introduce their work in their own voices by scanning the QR codes on the wall labels.\nDisplay: Shifting Perspectives\nTo truly change our perspective, we must re-examine how we represent our world. As a conceptual exercise, this exhibition avoids displaying architecture as a representation of a finished physical reality: no plans, no scale models or renderings, but rather poetic approaches to the possibility of a new self-perception. The Liebling Haus apartment becomes a future archaeological site, layered with thoughts and memories. Some are optimistic, some pessimistic, others provocative, critical and uncomfortable. It is a call for a new understanding of ourselves and our roles.\nRuth Abraham, Moritz Ahlert; Or Aleksandrowicz; Tula Amir; Jakob Brossmann; Yonatan Cohen; Oren Eldar, Edith Kofsky; Shira Gleitman; Sharon Golan; Jeremie Hoffmann;\nElad Horn, Lev Pavlov, Christina Eidenzon; Paul Kearns; Shira Levy Benyemini;\nVika Libman, Yuval Avraham; Adva Matar; Lou Moria; Yael Moria: studio MA, Galia Gur Zeev;\nYasmina Nusseibeh; Deborah Pinto Fdeda, Ifat Finkelman; Ori Scialom; Hila Shemer, Ofir Shachamorov; Aiman Tabony; Els Verbakel\n

SUMMARY:The Circle /
DESCRIPTION:A dress grown from roots. A folding electric car. A device that draws drinking water from the air. An earthen architectural pavilion, 3D-printed on site. Works grown from bacteria, algae and fungi. This is “The Circle,” the new, large-scale exhibition at Design Museum Holon.\nCurated by Talia Yanover and Lior Harmoni, the exhibition spans five galleries and turns the museum into a living, dynamic, shifting environment. Visitors are invited to activate, explore and encounter scientific research and technological developments expressed through materials, objects and multi-sensory experiences.\nAmong the projects on view: an architectural pavilion 3D-printed from earth, a kinetic light installation that mimics sunlight, root systems that become a dress, sandals made from recycled tires, algae-based textile, a life-size, eight-meter wooden sculpture of a whale shark, and an interactive installation linking the visitor’s heartbeat to the natural electromagnetic frequency generated between the earth’s surface and the atmosphere.\nSeveral projects were developed in collaboration with leading Israeli research and academic institutions – the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Technion and Shenkar. Participants include Stella McCartney, Oki Sato, Naoto Fukasawa, MVRDV, Peter Opsvik and Mitchell Joachim – Terreform ONE, alongside dozens of Israeli designers, climate-tech startups and projects created specifically for the exhibition.\nThe circular approach at the heart of the exhibition is applied to its own design: display elements were planned with reuse and an afterlife beyond the exhibition’s run in mind – from materials to the accompanying graphics, down to the labels and catalogue.\nשמלה הצומחת משורשים, מכונית חשמלית מתקפלת, מתקן המפיק מי שתייה מן האוויר, פביליון המודפס בתלת-ממד מאדמה, ועבודות שנוצרו מחיידקים, אצות ופטריות – כך נראית “המעגל”, תערוכה חדשה ורחבת-היקף במוזיאון העיצוב חולון.\nהתערוכה, בעריכת האוצרות טליא ינובר וליאור חרמוני, משתרעת על פני חמישה חללי תצוגה והופכת את המוזיאון לסביבה חיה, דינמית ומשתנה.

DESCRIPTION:The exhibition showcases, for the first time, the work of the Israel Museum’s conservators in action – processes usually performed far from the public eye. Displayed in the exhibition space are eight items from the Museum’s collections; each has an interesting story to tell, discovered in the course of collaborative research on the items by curators and conservators.\nConservation aims to ensure the material integrity of pieces of cultural heritage. To achieve this goal, conservators follow ethical guidelines and adhere to the principles that guided the objects’ production. The Museum’s Conservation Department consists of six laboratories that handle the hundreds of thousands of items in the collection – archaeological finds, artworks, and ethnographic artifacts. Each lab specializes in different materials. The Conservation Department is the first and most comprehensive of its kind among Israeli museums, and its history as a leader in the field of conservation is rich and varied.\nWe invite you to follow the path embarked on by items from the moment they arrive at the Museum and until their display – a journey accompanied by designers, technical teams, and logistical teams, among others.\nCurators: Galit Bennett-Dahan and Sharon Tager\n Spertus Gallery\n
