SUMMARY:Menashe Kadishman: Urban | Nature
DESCRIPTION:The 1970s were an experimental and groundbreaking period in the career of Menashe Kadishman (1932–2015), one of Israel’s most prominent and popular artists.\nAt the beginning of that decade, Kadishman started using telephone directories as a platform for his artworks. In an almost obsessive act of covering and uncovering, he transformed pages from phone books into vivid, emotional spaces filled with colors and forms evoking landscapes or cardiograms. He created hundreds of these abstract drawings, disrupting the rigid, alienating order of the urban grid.\nAlongside his works on phone books, Kadishman also turned to artistic acts that intervene directly in nature and the landscape. “I wanted to work with the Creator’s forest, the organic forest, and incorporate into it … forms that clash with nature,” he explained.\nFrom drawings on the pages of phone books to interventions in urban nature, this exhibition offers a glimpse into a lesser-known chapter in Kadishman’s oeuvre. Fusing the city with nature, the works on show deal with the relationship between the artistic act, daily life, and the forces of nature – elements that remained at the heart of his artistic practice throughout his life.\nCurator: Amitai Mendelsohn\nHagit Gallery\n___________________________\nמרישומים על ספרי טלפונים ועד לפעולות התערבות בטבע העירוני, התערוכה האינטימית פותחת צוהר לפרק מרתק, ומוכָּר פחות, ביצירתו של מנשה קדישמן, מן היוצרים הבולטים והאהובים באמנות הישראלית.\nהעשור שבין 1969 ל־1979 היה תקופה ניסיונית ופורצת דרך ביצירתו של קדישמן. בסוף שנות ה־60 אימץ את ספר הטלפונים כמצע מרכזי ליצירתו. בפעולה כמעט אובססיבית של כיסוי וגילוי הפכו דפי הטלפונים למרחב לחלומותיו ולשיטוטיו בצורה ובצבע.\nבמקביל לספרי הטלפונים, פנה קדישמן לפעולות התערבות בטבע ובנוף. “רציתי לעבוד עם היער שיצר הבורא, היער האורגני, ולשלב בו יער מכני, מעשה ידי אדם, שיהיו בו צורות מנוגדות לטבע”, הסביר.\nשני גופי עבודה אלו – דפי הטלפונים וההתערבויות פורצות הדרך של קדישמן בנוף – המוצגים בתערוכה, עוסקים במתח שבין האמנות, הסביבה העירונית וכוחות הטבע – נושאים שהיו בלב יצירתו של אמן זה ובהם עסק לאורך כל חייו.\n\nהתערוכה בנדיבות קרן חגית לאלו (לבית שטרייט) לזכר אבישי יהונתן פרידמן (2020-1966)\n
