5 Exhibitions To Visit In April

Alexandra Levin, art historian, art guide and DI art expert prepared her list of local exhibitions and cultural events that she highly recommends to visit in April!
1. Heroines. Fashion and Hope in World War II
Design Museum Holon
The new exhibition, conceived by fashion historian and curator Ya’ara Keydar for the Design Museum Holon, invites visitors on a journey through time, back to a turbulent era of global upheaval and unrest, exploring the stories of women during World War II. Fashion may not be the first thing that comes to mind in the context of World War II, but it played an important role throughout this period. During the war, fashion transformed into something entirely unprecedented, and this exhibition unveils its powerful influence during a time of existential crisis. “Heroines” examines the role of clothes and apparel in the stories of women who discovered ways to navigate an impossible reality, preserve their humanity, and cling to hope against all odds. The exhibition showcases dozens of complete ensembles, hundreds of accessories, alongside video footage, photographs, and other historical artifacts that bring these remarkable stories to life.
THE EXHIBITION IS OPEN TILL 31.01 2026
ADDRESS: Pinhas Eilon Street 8, Holon

2. PRELIMINARY SIGNS
Braverman Gallery, Tel Aviv
Exhibition opening on April 10th, at 7pm.
Braverman Gallery presents a second solo exhibition of famous Israeli ceramist, sculptor and installation artist Ronit Baranga. In this show, Baranga for the first time demonstrates her new series of figurative realistic paintings, combined with sculpture that creates a visual illusion effect (trompe l’oeil). These sculptural paintings were created over the last two years, with each series emerging from the previous one.
Baranga’s new works depict drawn and sculpted female figures in intimate and disturbing interactions. She seeks to explore the concept of transformation, a gradual change, sometimes barely noticeable, yet one that holds within it a profound inner shift. Each work of the show is linked to the others through a shared visual and thematic language.
THE EXHIBITION IS OPEN TILL 5.06.2025
ADDRESS: Eilat St. 33, Tel Aviv

3. Desktop: A Physical Exhibition about a Digital Era.
Haifa Museum of Art
For the exhibition, the Haifa Museum of Art invited artists to create new works, exploring how digital thinking, concepts, and tools take on substance in the physical world, shaping artistic practice and material expression.
The 33 local artists participating in the show come from a wide range of fields, including visual art, photography, design, fashion, animation, illustration, and architecture. Most are in their 30s, and grew up in the digital era. Their works delve into what happens when digital aesthetics encounter physical limitations—people, matter, and unpredictability—and what it means when technology becomes an integral part of our bodies and identities.
THE EXHIBITION IS OPEN TILL 3.01.2026
ADDRESS: Shabbetai Levi St. 26, Haifa

4. (M)OTHERLAND
Tel Aviv Museum of Art
(M)OTHERLAND project was created by the artist Ruth Patir for the Israeli Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, which remained closed. Now the project debuts at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. A multi-episode video installation documents Patir’s journey to fertility preservation, told from a personal and touching perspective.
Patir has created a richly textured, original body of work in recent years that merges ancient local archaeology with advanced imaging technologies. While her cinematic realm is entirely computer-made, it is anchored in reality and in her lived experience. The exhibition ends with a work created in the aftermath of October 7, as Patir’s personal story becomes part of a collective narrative of a shattered present.
THE EXHIBITION IS OPEN TILL 13.09
ADDRESS: Shaul HaMelech Blvd. 27, Tel Aviv

5. STILL IN MOTION
Artport, Tel Aviv
Solo exhibition by the renowed Israeli Druze painter Fatma Shanan. In her most recent series of paintings and videos Shanan examines the moments when the boundaries between her body and nature around her dissolve. She interacts with different landscapes, her body merges with the earth, becomes one with trees, floats upon water, and transforms into fertile ground for sprouting a new narrative.
The landscape with which Shanan interacts is often delicate, fragile and requires attention, demanding all of her senses. Each Shanan’s painting takes months to complete, built up gradually through pausing and resuming. The landscape that ultimately takes shape represents the world as seen through the eyes of one who seeks not merely to observe, but to actively engage with it.
THE EXHIBITION IS OPEN TILL 7.06
ADDRESS: Haamal St. 8, Tel Aviv
